David Burden
Daden Limited
David Burden started his career in army communications before being "demobbed" in 1990, when he then worked for a variety of IT companies ending up as Marketing Director of Aseriti, a £70m B2B IT services company. During the Dot Com boom David founded a wireless data company developing both WAP and Voice XML systems, as well as founding the Midlands chapter of the First Tuesday Networking organisation. David has been involved in virtual worlds since the mid 1990s, having created early spaces using VRML and played in several early 3D communal worlds. David has been in Second Life since 2004 and has also had homes in There.com and Alpha World. David founded Daden, a Virtual Worlds and Virtual Character Consultancy in 2004 to help businesses and organisations explore the social, educational and commercial potential of virtual worlds. David has a keen interest in artificial intelligence and Daden have an AI platform for use both in SL and on the web. David is a Chartered Engineer and lives in Birmingham - where he is active in City and Regional business, technology and innovation initiatives.
Michael Callaghan
Lecturer, University of Ulster
Michael Callaghan is a Lecturer in the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems at the University of Ulster. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the University of Ulster and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is an editor of the International Journal of Online Engineering and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the IAOE (International Association of Online Engineering). Michael currently leads the activities of the Serious Games & Virtual Worlds Research Team at Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC) at the University of Ulster. His main research interests include remote experimentation and virtual worlds.
Carina Girvan
IRCSET ‘Embark Initiative’ Postgraduate Scholar, Trinity College, University of Dublin
Carina Girvan is an IRCSET ‘Embark Initiative’ post-graduate scholar undertaking a PhD in the Centre for Research in IT in Education in the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College, University of Dublin. Carina is an experienced educator and active researcher in virtual worlds. Her research focuses on the alignment of technology affordances with pedagogy in the design and evaluation of learning experiences in virtual worlds.
John Kirriemuir
Virtual Worlds Watch
John Kirriemuir [www.silversprite.com] is an independent researcher in the fields of virtual world use in teaching and learning, print-on-demand e-commerce, and the socio-economic attributes of rural public libraries. Previously, John undertook research for several funding bodies on the use of gaming-based technologies in teaching and learning, and has been a researcher, manager and coordinator in several UK digital library projects and services. John is the sole researcher on Virtual World Watch (VWW) [www.virtualworldwatch.net], a service funded by Eduserv [www.eduserv.org.uk/research]. VWW has researched and produced reports since 2007 documenting the take-up of virtual world use in UK universities and colleges, identifying trends, issues, obstacles to use and subject areas where virtual worlds are being heavily used. Underpinning this work is a continuous process of identifying, mapping and tracking virtual world use in teaching and learning within the UK academic sector.

Barry McAdam
Intel Ireland Innovation Centre, Performance Learning Solutions
Barry McAdam is the Lead Designer and a User Experience Expert consultant for the Performance Learning Solutions group in Intel. He has been at the forefront of many new pilot programs, usage model development, online simulations and technology deployments for the group. As well as this Barry runs his own design company called baboom.ie where he has worked on many projects ranging from online games for the BBC cbeebies, the development of knowledge management systems for Dublin City Council to backdrop animations for the Performance Corporation theatre company. Barry has worked on the Intel skoool program for 6 years designing and developing content which have been deployed in 37 countries worldwide, this includes the BETT award winning skoool online Mathematical Toolkit. Barry has been actively involved with the skoool Second Life collaboration with the University of Ulster where they have built a virtual team/ collaboration centered activity to build on the skoool experience and explore next generation learning opportunities.
Kerri McCuskerResearch Associate, University of Ulster
Kerri McCusker is a Research Associate within the Serious Games & Virtual Worlds research team at the Intelligence Systems Research Centre, University of Ulster, Magee Campus. Kerri is an active researcher in virtual worlds with a particular focus on the teaching of STEM subjects and the integration of virtual learning environments/virtual worlds She is an active member of the Second Life community and frequently haunts other virtual worlds including OpenSim, Metaplace, Activeworlds, Small Worlds, Whyville and Twinity.
Anna O DonovanLearning Development Manager, Intel Performance Learning SolutionsAnna O Donovan is Learning Development Manager with Intel Performance Learning Solutions with over eight years’ experience with this group. Anna has worked on the content strategy, design and overseeing development of a number of education programs including online training for Intel engineers and the skoool program. skoool is an international award-winning education program providing education content and tools for teachers of Maths and Science. Launched in 2002, the program has since been implemented in 37 countries, 7 languages and has in excess of 4 million users. Anna is currently responsible for the skoool program in Ireland, Hong Kong and Australia and is currently developing next generation learning and teaching tools for the Education Research Centre. Previous to this, Anna has worked with leading education and academic publishers in Ireland and in the UK.
Tim SavageLecturer in Technology and Learning, University of Dublin
Tim Savage is a Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College, University of Dublin and a member of the Centre for Research in IT in Education (CRITE). His research in Virtual Worlds arose from his long standing research interests in online and blended communities for learning. He is the principal investigator on several Virtual World research projects in areas as diverse as Development Education (Irish Aid, Dept. of Foreign Affairs) and Continuing Professional Development, in addition to research into cognitive mapping of online user interactions. His Virtual World research focuses on the identification, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate pedagogies for use in Virtual Worlds and the accompanying methodological considerations.
